BUFFALO CHARTER SCHOOLS TO HOLD A DAY OF ACTION AND VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE; FAMILIES, STUDENTS & EDUCATORS TO CALL ON LAWMAKERS FOR FAIR FUNDING THIS YEAR
This is the year to end the inequity that leaves Buffalo charter kids funded at only 3/5
Albany, NY – With budget season underway in Albany, Buffalo charter schools are coming together on Monday, February 22 to speak with one voice to ask lawmakers to end the inequity that plagues their schools and their children.
They are calling for fair funding and an end to the inequality that leaves Buffalo charter school kids funded at 3/5 of what other public school children in the city receive. The primary reason for this inequity is that Buffalo charter schools are denied state facilities funding for their school buildings. A 2014 law gave some NYC charter schools access to this aid but left out all of the schools outside of NYC and approximately one quarter of the charters in NYC.
Parents, students and educators will be calling for an end to this inequality and will be joined by community supporters such as the Buffalo Urban League of Young Professionals. This will also be a day of action where people will have the chance to register to vote and call state legislators.
