Charter advocacy organization applauds families for engaging in today’s rally at the Capitol
Albany rally is a chance for children to see democracy in action
Albany, NY – As thousands of charter students, parents, and educators prepare to rally in Albany today the state’s charter school advocacy organization is applauding them for making the trip and seeing democracy in action.
The rally comes not long after the state’s teachers’ union boss questioned whether children should miss a day in the classroom to attend a rally, even though its own advocacy group, the Alliance for Quality Education (“AQE”), held a rally in Albany several weeks prior that included students.
Northeast Charter Schools Network CEO Kyle Rosenkrans said, “While many complain that today’s citizens are too apathetic, the charter sector has stepped up with a massive civics lesson for thousands of children. We think it’s great that charter educators are encouraging these kids to advocate so that other New York students can have the same opportunity they have. When we help instill these habits of civic engagement early in a child, they’ll last a lifetime.
“The hypocrisy of NYSUT and Karen Magee is galling when you consider that their own advocacy group brought students to Albany just a few weeks ago. I won’t hold my breath for NYSUT to ask the state to investigate AQE.”
About the Northeast Charter Schools Network: The Northeast Charter Schools Network is a regional advocacy organization for the more than 250 charter schools in New York and Connecticut. Its mission is to support and expand high quality charter schools in the region.
