CHARTER ASSOCIATION CALLS ON CONGRESS TO DO THE RIGHT THING FOR DREAMERS: UPHOLD DACA AND PROTECT VULNERABLE CHILDREN
Albany, NY – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today sent the following statement in response to the Trump administration decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA program.
New York State is home to approximately 42,000 Dreamers and Connecticut is home to approximately 10,000.
Northeast Charter Schools Network CEO Janeene Freeman said, “We stand with all the families who will suffer under the decision to end DACA, and urge the administration and Congress to act swiftly to right this wrong.
“Charter schools throughout New York and Connecticut embrace the DREAMERS and the Northeast Charter Schools Network could not disagree more adamantly with any decision to put their lives and legal status in jeopardy.
“We join the resounding chorus of Americans who are calling on Congress to do the right thing by these innocent children and pass a law that would allow a legal pathway to citizenship.”
