Charter Association Congratulates Public Charter Schools Named ‘Schools of Distinction’ by the State of Connecticut
New Haven, CT -- The Connecticut State Department of Education today released the 2016-17 results from the state’s Next Generation Accountability System, the state’s school and district accountability system. It identified 124 Schools of Distinction for "overall high performance, substantial improvement in overall performance, or high matched student cohort academic growth for all students or high need students." Among these 124 schools was Booker T. Washington Academy, a public charter school in New Haven, and Capital Preparatory Harbor School, a public charter school in Bridgeport.
Northeast Charter Schools Network Connecticut State Director Yam Menon said, "We are thrilled for the students, staff and families of these schools on this well-deserved honor. Booker T. Washington Academy is being recognized as one of the highest performing schools at the elementary or middle school level in the state, and is among the state’s 'greatest improvers.' Capital Prep is being honored in two categories: for highest growth among high-needs students, and highest growth among all students. It's clear that when given access to a high-quality education, all kids can learn and excel. We commend these schools for their unwavering commitment to educational excellence."
