CHARTER ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS PROPOSAL TO SERVE MORE STUDENTS; CITES CONSISTENT DEMAND, QUALITY RESULTS
New Haven, CT – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today sent the following statement in response to additional charter school seats that were proposed for approval to the State Board of Education on Wednesday.
Northeast Charter Schools Network Connecticut State Director Yam Menon said, "Students who attend our state’s public charter schools are no less deserving of access to a great education and for that education to be fairly funded. Parents are demanding charter schools in huge numbers, and there are simply not enough seats to meet that demand. For at least a few of the more than 7,000 names sitting on charter school waitlists, these additional seats will open the door to life-changing educational opportunities.
"Connecticut’s public charter schools consistently deliver a high-quality education and overwhelmingly produce high student academic performance. But for every year that this bitter divisive narrative continues, we will continue to see thousands of kids whose needs aren’t being met. We need to enact a truly comprehensive and fair funding formula that equitably funds all public school students, including those at our public charters, and place the focus where it should be: on our kids."
About the Northeast Charter Schools Network: The Northeast Charter Schools Network is the membership and advocacy organization for the more than 300 charter schools in New York and Connecticut. Its mission is to support and expand high quality public charter schools.
