CHARTER ASSOCIATION WELCOMES FIRST-EVER

NEW YORK STATE DIRECTOR

Albany, NY – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today announced its first-ever New York State Director Claudia Granados.

Granados was born in El Salvador before her family immigrated to California when she was a child. She attended UCLA and shortly after began working for the President of the Los Angeles Unified School District. She has deep roots in labor. Her mother worked as an SEIU service worker when Granados was growing up. Granados spent a number of years working for SEIU and eventually served as the Deputy Political Director for 32BJ.  She also served as then-Newark Mayor Cory Booker's chief labor negotiator.

Northeast Charter Schools Network CEO Kyle Rosenkrans said, “Claudia brings a breadth of knowledge and expertise to NECSN. Aside from her impressive labor background, she knows first-hand how a great education is the cornerstone of a successful future. The NECSN staff is excited to work with Claudia and I am sure our schools will be, too.”

Claudia Granados said,  “Education truly is the great equalizer. As an immigrant, and the child of parents whose first language is not English but who pushed me to excel in school, I recognize that I am where I am today in large part because of an excellent education. Charter schools are providing this path for so many children and I knew I wanted to represent educators who are doing this meaningful work.”

Granados will oversee New York State advocacy work and will drive the campaigns focused on achieving NECSN’s main goals. Granados starts with NECSN full time on August 27. She will be based in the organization’s New York City office but will routinely travel statewide focusing on the largest school districts where charters are located.
