CHARTER SCHOOL ASSOCIATION BLASTS HARTFORD FEDERATION OF TEACHERS
Hartford, CT – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today blasted the Hartford Federation of Teachers for attempting to bully a mayoral candidate into returning donations from public charter school supporters.
In response, Jeremiah Grace, Connecticut State Director for the Northeast Charter Schools Network, said:
“It’s shocking and disappointing that the Hartford Federation of Teachers prefers to pit public schools against one another.
“Public charter schools work hard every day to provide children and their communities with a quality education. Charters want to work alongside all public schools – not against them. This sort of divisive bullying is about adult interests, and it comes at the expense of children and their future.
“Charter school parents and students are Connecticut citizens, and many are Hartford residents who deserve to have a voice in this local election. Attempts to cut them out of the political process, like this one, are absolutely shameful.”
BACKGROUND: Of the 24 public charter schools in Connecticut, 20% are unionized.
