New Haven, CT – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today implored lawmakers to continue their support for Connecticut’s public charter schools as they get back to work for the 2017 legislative session in Hartford.
Northeast Charter Schools Network Connecticut State Director Jeremiah Grace said, “Connecticut’s 2017 legislative session is opening with big fiscal challenges, but it is also opening a window of opportunity for lawmakers to do the right and honorable thing by all of Connecticut’s kids.”
“In the two decades since the public charter school movement began in our state, we’ve seen these schools working wonders in the communities that need them most. Last year, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the passing of Connecticut’s charter law. And this year, eight of Connecticut’s original public charter schools will celebrate their 20th anniversary. To keep growing for another 20 years and beyond, these schools and these students need the ongoing investment and support of our lawmakers.”
“Charter schools may be one of the few remaining bipartisan issues and we hope lawmakers can find common ground and agreement to act responsibly and protect children and families who are desperate for the high quality educations charters are providing.”
About the Northeast Charter Schools Network: The Northeast Charter Schools Network is the membership and advocacy organization for the more than 250 charter schools in New York and Connecticut. Its mission is to support and expand high quality charter schools.
