Heketi Community Charter School to Break Ground, School Receives No State Building Aid

Bronx, NY – The Heketi Community Charter School in the Bronx today will break ground on a new school building. Heketi is one of the 76 charter schools in New York City that is not co-located and does not receive building aid. The school is located in private space and serves 200 students in grades K-3.

Northeast Charter Schools Interim President Kyle Rosenkrans issued the following statement:

“No school should have to sacrifice funding intended for students and classrooms just to pay the rent. Schools like Heketi Community Charter School desperately need equal access to building aid if we are to ensure that every New York City student has access to a quality public school options.

"The children of this school’s community deserve no less than a child who walks down the street and attends a district school."

“Heketi wants to grow to be able to serve more students and in more grades at a time in which New York City parents need more options. With access to building aid and equitable funding, that vision can come closer to a reality for Heteki's community and dozens more like it.

"We congratulate the teachers and board members at Heteki for this accomplishment."
