New York Charter Association Responds to National Alliance Report Which Shows Families in New York are Demanding Charters as an Option
Albany, NY – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today sent the following statement in response to the National Alliance for Public Charter School’s annual report on charter school enrollment, entitled A Growing Movement.
Since the report’s first release in 2006, charter school enrollment nationwide has tripled, growing from one million to more than three million students. For New York State, the numbers show strong and growing support.
- Albany - 24%
- Buffalo – 21%
- Rochester - 17%
- New York City- 10%
Northeast Charter Schools Network New York State Director Andrea Rogers said, “Let this be an unequivocal reminder -- parents don't stick with the status quo when their children's futures are on the line. Law and policy makers across the political spectrum must pay attention to this strong and growing demand."
