PARENTS CALL FOR BOLD EDUCATION CHANGE AHEAD OF RALLY FOR EXCELLENT SCHOOLS NEXT WEDNESDAY

Despite Progress, Parents Call for Urgent Change to Fix Crisis that Traps 40,000 Students for Failing Schools

NEW HAVEN, CT — Ahead of a highly anticipated rally for excellent schools next week in New Haven, a chorus of parents voiced support today for bold action to fix the crisis that has trapped 40,000 Connecticut students in failing schools. While Connecticut has seen considerable progress in addressing this crisis, thousands of parents, students, and teachers are rallying with community and faith leaders across the state next week to encourage legislative leaders to do more:

“Because we can't afford to move, my daughter goes to a school where almost every child is failing,” said Louise Galindez. “We need to see more done, and we need to see it faster. My kid’s future is at stake”

"I'll be standing with more than 2,000 other parents next Wednesday to send a loud message: there are 40,000 kids just like my son trapped in failing schools, and they can't afford to wait. All kids deserve great schools now. " said Tara Maxwell

"Every child deserves a fair chance to succeed, but too many parents like me cannot choose great schools for their kids" said Carissa March. "We need bigger, bolder change now."

“I was able to choose an excellent school for my son,” said Linda Francis, “but I’m rallying in December for my neighbors and cousins and brothers who are still stuck.”
