State Charter Association Responds to 2017-18 CT SAT Results

New Haven, CT The Northeast Charter Schools Network today sent the following statement in response to the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) release of the 2017-18 Connecticut School Day SAT results.

Northeast Charter Schools Network Connecticut Policy Manager Chris Pacileo said,

"Once again, public charter schools continue to serve as a high-quality education option for all children - especially those in our state’s most underserved communities”

"This year’s SAT results show that the majority of our charter school students scored higher in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math than their district counterparts and continue to provide great options for kids. On average, 89% of charter schools with available data outperformed their host districts in ELA and 78% outperformed their host districts in Math. If ever we needed more proof that public charter schools are a key component in closing Connecticut’s achievement gap, this is it."

The year-to-year charter SAT score average changes also outpaced the host districts. Charter schools had a growth in average score of 3.5 points in ELA and 3.8 points in Math, whereas the host districts had an average drop of 4.5 points in ELA and only a 2.6 point increase in Math.
