Stamford Academy held its graduation recently for the 34-member class of 2015. In an auditorium filled to the brim with supportive parents, siblings, and peers, the graduating seniors heard from school leaders, alumni, and members of their class. They also celebrated the educators that supported them over the past four years, and enjoyed an annual tradition -- the teacher thank you video!
Willie Williams, an alumni of the school and the keynote speaker, urged students to persevere through any trouble they have in the future, saying, “There are going to be some ups and downs, but continue to move forward... Greatness awaits each and every one of you.”
Two graduating seniors also spoke, Octavia Natteal and LaQuariah Corder. Octavia praised the school for its culture, and thanked her peers for their support, saying, “We have survived it all because we are a team.”
LaQuariah shared her story, a powerful one, saying, “I wasn't mentally prepared for high school at all. I had a D, maybe C average, and 118 absences. So my mom took me out and brought me here. The Stamford Academy staff helped me get to where I am today.”
She also shared a quote from Marianne Williamson: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”
Congrats to the grads!
