STATE CHARTER ASSOCIATION CONGRATULATES FOUR NEW CHARTER SCHOOLS SLATED TO OPEN IN 2017
Three of the new schools will open in the Bronx; Elmwood Village Charter School 2 will open in Buffalo
Albany, NY – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today congratulated four new schools approved by the SUNY Charter Schools Institute.
Three of the new schools will be located in the Bronx: The New York Center for Autism Charter School Bronx is a replication of a school in Harlem, Urban Assembly Charter School for Computer Science will be the first charter high school of its kind in the city focusing on technical careers, and Brilla College Preparatory Charter School at Highbridge will use blended learning where kids will spend a quarter of their time on computers.
In Buffalo, Elmwood Village Charter School 2 is a replication of a highly successful charter whose students routinely outperform the district in state tests by double-digit margins. (Most recent state testing data can be seen here.)
Northeast Charter Schools Network Interim NYS Director Andrea Rogers said, “New York’s charter schools are leading the way in finding unique and cutting-edge ways to educate children. Families in the Bronx and Buffalo are the real winners today. We congratulate and thank these educators for their commitment to providing more opportunities to families and children in communities that desperately need them."
The schools are scheduled to open in 2017.
