NEW STATEWIDE DATA SHOWS CHARTERS OUTPACE STATE GRADUATION RATES; OUTPERFORM HOST DISTRICTS

Charters especially excel with high-need students, data reveals

Albany, NY – The Northeast Charter Schools Network today sent the following statement in response to newly released statewide graduation rate data.

Northeast Charter Schools Network New York Policy Manager Jason Zwara said, "This new graduation rate data continues to show how well charter schools serve their students, particularly those with high needs. Once again, charter schools in every major city outperform their district counterparts, while overall charters continue to raise graduation rates more quickly than the state.

"Charters also outperform their district counterparts when it comes to serving high-needs students: charters graduate special education students, English Language Learners, and economically disadvantaged students at higher levels than the state average.

"Charters continue to achieve for the students and families who chose them, including the most vulnerable and at-risk, and continue to show why New York State should fund charters equitably."
