The NYSED Board of Regents met in Albany on Monday for its monthly P-12 committee meeting and voted on revisions and renewals for more than a dozen different Charter schools across the State.

The two New York City schools whose charters were revised by the Board are:

  • New Ventures Charter School (Staten Island), which had its enrollment lowered from 216 to 180 students, and,
  • Rochdale Early Advantage Charter School (Queens), which is expanding its grade levels from K-5 to K-8 and increasing its enrollment from 300 to 450 students

The Board voted in favor of a 5-year renewal (through June 30, 2024) for the following Board of Regents-authorized Charter schools:

  • KIPP Infinity Charter School (Manhattan)
  • South Bronx Classical Charter School, with a revision to increase enrollment from 470 to 500 students

The Board voted in favor of a 3-year renewal (through June 30, 2022) for the Board of Regents-authorized Young Women’s College Preparatory Charter School (Rochester).

The Board voted in favor of a 2-year renewal (through June 30, 2021) for the Board of Regents-authorized Compass Charter School (Brooklyn), and included a revision to add “a key design element to emphasize its commitment to enrolling and serving a diverse population.”

The Board voted in favor of a 5-year renewal (through June 30, 2024) for the following New York City Department of Education-authorized Charter schools:

  • Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Queens), with a revision to expand grade levels served from K-8 to K-12 and expand enrollment from 792 to 1296 students
  • Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy Charter School
  • Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy II Charter School, with a revision to decrease enrollment from 1250 to 1150 students
  • Hellenic Classical Charter School (Brooklyn), with a revision to increase enrollment from 480 to 498 students
  • KIPP Academy Charter School
  • Summit Academy Charter School (Brooklyn), with a revision to “engage in a school restructuring contemporaneous with the renewal”
  • Riverton Street Charter School (Queens)

The Board voted in favor of a 3-year renewal (through June 30, 2022) for the New York City Department of Education-authorized Hebrew Language Academy Charter School (Brooklyn).
